Used Concrete Mixer Truck Buying Checklist

Ask whether the quoted cubic metres refer to nominal concrete filling, water capacity or geometric drum volume. These are different measurements. Liebherr's HTM 905 specification, for example, lists them separately; its figures illustrate why the label matters, not what any other used mixer can carry.

Confirm the mixer maker, model, identification plate and rated capacity, then check the complete vehicle's working weight and axle distribution. Water, tools, fitted equipment and concrete all affect the load. A larger drum does not override the chassis rating or destination weight limits. Have the fleet or body specialist confirm the intended load using the actual concrete mix and vehicle configuration.

Record the required batch size, number of trips, typical travel and waiting time, road surface, gradients and unloading arrangement. Check the overall height and width against the plant and site entrances, and confirm that the filling hopper and discharge arrangement suit the planned operation.

Tell the supplier whether the route includes narrow urban streets, rough site roads or extended waiting at a project. Check local service support for both the truck chassis and mixer components. Do not accept a promised daily output without examining the complete delivery cycle; concrete production and delivery quality requirements belong with the buyer's qualified operating team.

Have a specialist review the drum shell, mixing blades, supports, rollers, hopper and discharge chutes for wear, hardened concrete buildup, damage and previous repairs. Request findings tied to current photos and the mixer identity. Where thickness or internal condition matters, ask how it was measured and which manufacturer's service criteria were used; a clean exterior cannot establish remaining service life.

This is a purchase checklist, not a repair procedure. Do not enter the drum, reach into moving parts or remove guards. Internal inspection needs qualified personnel, manufacturer procedures, safe isolation and any applicable confined-space precautions; switching off alone is not enough, as HSE's maintenance guidance explains.

Identify how the mixer is powered, including the hydraulic pump, motor, reduction gearbox and any power take-off or separate engine. Ask for the exact component identities, available service records and local parts support. Inspectors should record leaks, unusual noise, wear and control faults against the equipment's actual specification.

Agree the functional-test scope before the inspection and let qualified personnel conduct it safely. Ask whether the evidence demonstrates only empty-drum rotation or also the agreed operating condition. Record tests that could not be completed rather than treating them as passes. Controls, emergency stops, guards and access equipment also need professional review; a short phone video cannot replace that assessment.

The chassis still needs its own engine, gearbox, brake, steering, suspension, tire, frame and electrical checks. Review how the mixer subframe and mounts relate to the chassis, especially where a body has been replaced or repaired. Have significant modifications or damage assessed by a qualified specialist instead of relying on repainting or a verbal assurance.

Ask for chassis mileage, engine or mixer operating hours where recorded, servicing and major repair history. Mileage alone does not describe time spent operating at the batching plant or delivery site. Missing records should remain an uncertainty in the comparison, not be converted into a claim of low use.

Compare quotations only after the capacity definition, current condition and included work are clear. List any drum work, hydraulic repairs, servicing, tire replacement or cosmetic preparation separately. Ask for the final evidence that will show each agreed item is complete before loading.

For export from China, confirm shipment dimensions, route, loading responsibilities and documents with the supplier and forwarder. The buyer or importer must verify destination import and registration eligibility for both the chassis and fitted equipment. Keep the confirmed specifications, inspection findings, accepted limitations and delivery scope together for the specific truck.
